Investment Model Entry Steps

You may enter an investment model in one of three ways.

  1. By Attaching it to a Client's Portfolio.
Portfolio Menu with Investment Models Selected

From the Main Menu, click on Portfolio | Assets | Investment Models. Click on Actions | New.
Adding a New Investment Model
MasterPlan will display a Search Box, showing all the Investment Models currently in the Library of Investment Models. You can select one of those, or cancel the search and create a new one.

Search Box

Fill out the Spreadsheet Tab and the Description Tab.

Entering the model this way will add the model to the client's Baseline Present holdings and thus will affect their current financial situation.

  1. By Creating a What-If Buy of the Model.

Scenario Menu

From the Main Menu, click on Scenario | What-If Buys.

Creating a New Investment Model as a What-If

Click on Actions | New Buy Asset | Models.

Either select one from the current library, or escape the search list (click on the Cancel button to stop the search) and to create a new one.

Fill out the Spreadsheet Tab and the Description Tab as appropriate.

Entering the model information through the What-If Scenario will only affect the client's Proposed What-If financial situation. However, the model will be saved in the Investment Model Library and you will be able to call it up and use it with other clients later.

Then create the What-If instruction.

Sample What-If Buy Instruction

Click OK.

Note: You must enter a cost in Cell A1 (Row 1, Column 1). Otherwise MasterPlan will not know what the item costs and will not buy it in the Proposed What-If projection.

  1. By Entering it Directly into the Models Library.

Investment Models Library

From the Main Menu, click on Portfolio | Models Library.

Add New Investment Model to Library

Click on Actions | New Investment Model.

Fill out the Spreadsheet Tab. MasterPlan does not display the Description Tab nor the Retirement Tab, since you are not attaching the spreadsheet to a particular client.

If you enter models using this method, you are actually entering them directly into MasterPlan's Investment Model Library, rather than into a client's portfolio. Therefore, entering models in this fashion will not affect the client's present or proposed financial situation, unless you subsequently link the models to a particular client portfolio.

Remember to save and close the form.
