When you get this message, Windows will list the program in which the error occurred. The actual executable file for MasterPlan is MPWin.exe, so you will probably see it listed in the error message.
Also, if you get an Access Violation message, the address listed in the message may vary from one version of MasterPlan to another. However, you should write down the entire message, because it may be helpful.
Sometimes the address might be something like "Read of Address FFFFFFFF" or "Read of Address 00493F06."
Generally the message will include some more information. We have listed some of the possibilities below:
This message might also include the following phrase:
ovcIDTax:field
You can get this name if you try to save a Tax and Cash Flow Form without giving it a name. Assign a name and save it again.
You can get this message if you have installed or uninstalled a program (other than MasterPlan) that has removed an item from your computer's Registry needed by MasterPlan. Specifically, this message means that the spreadsheet utility in MasterPlan is no longer registered.
We use this spreadsheet utility in the Investment Model Form, the Tax and Cash Flow Form, and in various display windows (such as the Baseline and Proposed What-If Overview Screens) and some worksheet screens (such as the Retirement Needs Analysis and the Disability Needs Worksheet).
Tip: If you can you run a projection report such as the Baseline
| Overview without getting this message, and if the Overview spreadsheet
shows up (with the Summary, Detailed, Text Report buttons), then that
would indicate that the spreadsheet is registered, and we need to look
elsewhere.
If you cannot run the Overview report, but you can run the Balance Sheet
report, then that would indicate that the spreadsheet utility is no longer
registered (i.e. something happened to your Registry).
To correct this problem, you will need to reregister the spreadsheet utility again.
Locate the program on your computer that allows
you to register programs without reinstalling them. The program name might
be regsvr32.exe or regsvr.exe.
If you do not know how to do this, jump to Search
for a File or Folder. The regsvr32.exe might be in the Windows\System
or Windows\System32 or Wint\System folder (or in one of a similar name).
Once you discover the location of the registry program, you need to go to your computer's command prompt. If you do not know how to do this, jump to Using the (MS-DOS) Command Prompt.
Once you are in the Command Prompt, type the following
commands. (In this example, we are using
the program name regsvr32.)
After you type each command, hit the Enter key.
regsvr32 vcf15.ocx
regsvr32 sfxbar.dll
Make sure that the following files are also located
in the system directory:
Olepro32.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Stdole2.tlb
Ole32.dll
Advapi32.dll
Comctl32.dll
These are needed to run the spreadsheet utility. They need to be in
your Windows System directory; however
they do not need to be "registered."
As another solution, you could try reinstalling MasterPlan, but you do not need to reinstall the BDE (Borland Database Engine) or InterBase.
This will be followed by the name of the database it could not find.
To correct this situation:
Hit OK.
Click on Database | Preferences | Folders.
Check the location and name of the database file.
Try to log on again.
You can also get this error if you are using an operating system such as NT, 2000 Professional, or XP Professional. Your System Administrator may not have given you enough administrative rights (such as to create files, to write to files, etc.) for you to be able to access files.
Again this is an error that can occur on one of MasterPlan's spreadsheet forms. The message will probably tell you the name of the missing file. Make sure it exists on your computer and follow the instructions above to register the file, if necessary. For example, you can get this message if the vcf15.ocx is missing or not registered in the Registry.
